Under the moto "PROMOTING LEADERSHIP OF THOUGHT THAT LEADS TO ACTION" in celebration of its 50th anniversery, the South - East Europe Division of the World Academy of Arts and Science has launched its latest project - Cadmus journal.
Cadmus is being founded by members of SEED and the World Academy to further the common aims of WAAS, CoR and Pugwash, but it is not an official journal of the Academy or SEED or any other organization. It seeks rather to serve as a platform for the membership of all these organizations to project new ideas – SEED-IDEAS – that can change the world, Real-Ideas that possess their own inherent power for self-effectuation, ideas that can lead to actions to enlarge human and social capital, increase harmony and social cohesion, and assure a sustainable future for all humanity.
Mindful of the warning by R. Rato and the persistent economic problems that threaten human development, we devote the first issue to the crucial need for fresh thinking about economic issues. The articles in this first issue are rather long, because their principal aim is to raise questions rather than provide answers. The answers to the questions raised in these articles may often be stated more briefly, for great ideas can be expressed in few words. Therefore, future issues will include shorter articles on a broad range of issues. In our emerging electronically interconnected world, communication needs to be multi-directional and participative rather than one way. Therefore, we have decided to call our website www.seed-ideas.org, stressing its connection to SEED and emphasizing our goal of generating seed ideas.
Economy pervades our entire world and so does politics with its brutal, unnecessary and obsolete companions – war, terrorism and violence. War is obsolete, but nevertheless it persists, as do weapons of mass destruction, obsolete, yet still constituting a very real and present danger. We plan to devote our next issue to these questions.
We invite you join us and actively contribute your ideas to this endeavour,
Sincerely
Ivo Šlaus
